Jeff Michels
Apex 2022
In His own words:
I feel that I am super-blessed to be able to do what I am doing, at the level I am doing it at. I’m just a good weekend angler that was able to take it to the next level. I’m at a point in my life where I would like to help the angler that is just getting started, focusing on the high school and college ranks breaking into the professional level series. I want to help them avoid the same mistakes I made, because I didn’t have a person to guide me. I am looking forward to the huge advantages that APEX will bring to influence the fishing industry on the West Coast and see how it evolves and where we can take it to.
Hometown:
Lake Head, Calif.
Highlights:
Six pro level event wins, two Tournament of Champion wins, two FLW Angler of the Year titles, 13 FLW top-10’s, five WWBT top-10’s, six team Angler of the Year titles and over 100 team event wins
Behind the angler:
By the age of five, Jeff’s grandfather and father had already introduced him to trout fishing with an occasional trip for bass. As a teenager, his fishing passion grew from trout to day trips for spotted bass at Shasta. He bought his first bass boat and joined a local club at 23. His tournament career spawned from there.
In the boat:
Jeff loves the puzzle of figuring out what will tempt bass to bite on any given day and will fish anything that works. His boat is full of a little of everything; however, if he could force the bite, he would always tie on a big swimbait. Some of his go-to’s are an Osprey Talon Top Hook, Hawg Hunter Magnum Trout, and 7-inch Shasta Bass Bait. Dobyns Rods are fully stocked and paired with reels from Daiwa, Quantum, 13 Fishing and other brands.
