2022 Apex Cup-Angler Profile-Kerry Harris

In His own words:

When I first got into team tournaments, I remember competing against Justin Lucas in the championship at Lake Oroville. Shortly after that his career took off like a rocket. That made me realize that Bass Fishing, with the right opportunities and wins could catapult a person into that elite group of anglers. Fishing is in my blood, I love the sport. It’s my passion. It doesn’t matter if you have five dollars or a million dollars, when you’re passionate you still want the thrill of competing. I remember that as a child I was inspired by watching old timers on T.V. – Bill Dance, Hank Parker, Roland Martin and other legendary fishermen.  I am blessed that fishing allows me to work with young people and encourage their enthusiasm for the sport, I enjoy coaching the High School teams.  I appreciate that through APEX I can continue to be an amBASSador for the sport.

Hometown:

Born and raised in San Jose, California. Currently living in Bethel Island, Calif.

Highlights:

Fishing with his son Travis and coaching him into a world championship.

Behind the angler:

When church and chores were done, Kerry’s grandmother and mother introduced him to bank fishing for catfish crappie and bluegill. Fast forward to adulthood and at Thanksgiving dinner, his brother-in-law, Jim Davis, invited him out frog fishing. Although he had fished the California Delta previously, he had not done so with artificial lures. Kerry was intrigued and accepted the new adventure on the Dirty D. He landed his first frog fish and was hooked. He moved to Pro/Am tournaments in 2003.

In the boat:

Missile Baits load Kerry’s boat. He also keeps Berkley PowerBait MaxScent and Strike King Rage Tails plastics for flippin’ and pitchin’. Lucky Craft squarebills are another one of his go-to picks for the Delta.
